Deputy SENCO

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Deputy SENCO to join a dedicated team at a SEMH school in Enfield!

This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality education and support for pupils with additional needs, enabling them to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with the SENCO, leadership team, and teaching staff to implement and develop strategies that support the diverse needs of students within the school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SENCO: Assist in the leadership and management of the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision across the school.
  • Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Oversee and monitor the creation, implementation, and evaluation of IEPs for pupils.
  • Intervention Strategies: Develop and coordinate targeted interventions for students with SEMH and SEND needs.
  • Staff Development: Deliver and support staff training to ensure an inclusive and understanding learning environment for all pupils.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside external agencies, parents/carers, and other stakeholders to ensure holistic support for each pupil.
  • Compliance: Assist in maintaining compliance with SEND regulations, ensuring the school meets statutory obligations, including EHCP reviews and assessments.
  • Data Monitoring: Track and analyse data relating to pupil progress, interventions, and overall SEND provision effectiveness.
  • Behavioural Support: Collaborate with pastoral teams to address behaviour management, ensuring strategies align with the needs of pupils with SEMH.

 

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to work towards this).

Experience:

  • Proven experience working in a SEMH or similar SEND setting.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing or contributing to SEND provision within a school.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership abilities, with a focus on team collaboration and staff development.
  • Empathy and resilience to work effectively with pupils facing complex challenges.
