This role is an exciting opportunity to use the power of music to inspire, engage, and support students with a range of additional needs, including autism, learning difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver engaging and tailored music sessions that promote students’ confidence, creativity, and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Music Education: Plan and deliver inclusive music lessons and activities that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of SEN students.
- Creative Engagement: Use music to foster emotional expression, social interaction, and communication in students.
- Individual Support: Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of individual pupils, including one-to-one and small group sessions.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to integrate music into the broader educational and therapeutic curriculum.
- Progress Monitoring: Assess and track student progress, providing feedback to staff and parents/carers as required.
- Enrichment Activities: Organise and lead musical performances, workshops, or events to celebrate student achievements and enhance school life.
- Resource Management: Maintain and care for musical instruments and resources, ensuring accessibility for all students.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant music qualifications (e.g., degree in Music or Music Education) or equivalent experience.
- Previous experience working with children and young people with SEN is highly desirable.
Skills and Attributes:
- Proficiency in one or more instruments (e.g., piano, guitar, percussion) and ability to teach across various musical styles.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
- Ability to adapt and innovate to meet the unique challenges of working in a SEN environment.
