This is a permanent leadership opportunity, ideal for a strong Science teacher or current middle leader looking to take the next step in their career.
The successful candidate will lead a committed Science department and play a key role in driving standards, outcomes, and the quality of teaching and learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
As Director of Science, you will be responsible for leading and developing the Science department, ensuring high-quality teaching and strong student outcomes across KS3 and KS4 (with potential KS5).
You will work closely with senior leadership to implement strategies that raise attainment, improve curriculum delivery, and support staff development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Science department
- Drive high standards of teaching and learning across KS3–KS4 (and KS5 if applicable)
- Monitor and track student progress and attainment
- Develop and implement an engaging and effective Science curriculum
- Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff
- Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies
- Ensure a positive, high-achieving learning environment
Requirements
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong experience teaching Science at secondary level
- Proven ability to raise attainment and student outcomes
- Experience in a leadership role (e.g. Head of Department, Second in Charge, Lead Practitioner)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Desirable
- Experience teaching at KS5
- Specialism in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics
- A track record of departmental improvement
